Imagine a JPEG image of the Mazda CX-5 crossover and you're playing with it in Photoshop. You click and drag the corner of the image and reduce it proportionally, and now you've got the first ever subcompact crossover from Mazda: the 2016 CX-3.
But this nimble and sporty crossover is more than just a big Mazda3 hatchback or Mazda CX-5, less a foot. No, like the youngest child who benefits from all the advantages it took years for its older siblings to achieve, the CX-3 enters the world with the best of everything Mazda has to offer. While the Mazda2 is on hiatus, ready to be reinvigorated, the CX-3 fills the void for drivers who appreciate the versatility of a hatch (featuring 60/40 split rear seating) but who want the look and safety of the CUV body style.
If you want to be one of the first in London, Ontario, to try out the first-ever Mazda CX-3, come on by to Probart Mazda for a test drive. We're also your best source for wannabe owners in nearby Strathroy, St. Thomas, Port Stanley, and Dorchester, Ontario.
But for now, enjoy this quick preview of what we can expect when the CX-3 makes its debut in early Fall 2015.
2016 Mazda CX-3 Power & Fuel Economy
Though there are rumours that someday the new CX-3 might offer the diesel engine that is currently standard in other parts of the world, the 2016 model will be introduced with one simple offering: a 2.0L SKYACTIV 4-cylinder engine. It manages a symmetrical 146 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to pull this tight 4-door CUV around town. Though its EPA fuel ratings have not yet been formally release, they are estimated to be in the area of 8.1 L/100 km for city driving (29 mpg), and an efficient 6.7 on the highway (35 mpg). All-wheel drive will also be made available, along with paddle shifters on the top-of-the-line Grand Touring (GT) trim.
2016 Mazda CX-3 Interior
It's often what's inside that counts. And in no way will you be disappointed with what you find inside the new 2016 Mazda CX-3. This all-new model has the benefit of starting from scratch, allowing it to end up with a design that balances harmony with practicality. In fact, the American automotive reviewer, Edmunds.com, described the interior as a vehicle with details "you'd expect to find in a compact Audi." Even the fabric and material selection in the base model seems superior to what you would normally find on other makes this affordable. A 7-inch touchscreen, sunroof, heated seats/mirrors, Bose audio, audio text messaging, and a rearview camera are all treasures to discover within the new CX-3 menu.
2016 Mazda CX-3 Safety
The Mazda3 is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. So is the Mazda6, and the CX-5. Though the industry standard for vehicle crash testing hasn't yet had a chance to evaluate the CX-3, you have a pretty good idea of what's soon to come.
The 2016 CX-3 incorporates the same i-Activesense safety system as the rest of the fleet from the Japanese automaker. Not only does this ride hug the road and hold its own in a collision, it is also packed with advanced active safety features that can help you avoid a collision in the first place, including:
- Lane Departure Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Rain Sensing Wipers
